Photo Beam Intrusion Sensors

These result in very low false alarms when mounted high enough that roaming animals do not trigger. If an intruder sees them, they may try to step over or crawl under. The Two-Beam models are less sensitive to flying birds.

Infrared Motion Sensors

These occasionally result in false alarms during winter when pointing at heating vents and also when animals are in the field of view. These tend to result in lowest false alarms when used indoors without pets and when care is used such that heating vents do not trigger.

Wire

It is best to use solid wire with the DMGK2 connectors to avoid stray strands of wire creating difficulty during connection to screw terminals. Stranded wire is not recommended as loose strands of wire may create shorts. Contact a professional electrician for proper wiring.

Wire for Outdoor Sprinklers

Can be buried and is very weather resistant

Wire For Indoor / Semi-exposed Use Sprinklers, Photo Beam, Motion Detectors

Some people use phone wire for photo beam and motion detectors – but this is not recommended because a short in the wiring could cause a fire if used with a backup battery or higher powered AC adapter. Always use an appropriate fuse for the wire gauge selected when using batteries and/or AC adapters capable of supplying more than 880mA

Wire For Magnetic Switches and other non-powered sensors
